There is a gatekeeper at the Human Rights Commission in New Zealand
I sent around an email asking various stakeholders what their position was on a subject that's personal to me, so I'll skirt around the nitty gritty.

When I was a 16/17 year old "Teenage Solo Mother" and in my first two trimesters I was physically assaulted with threats to kill my unborn child because it was "Illegitimate and therefore not a REAL child". When I reported the physical assaults to my boss and suggested I go to the police he told me I was going to lose my job for being a trouble maker.

A week after that a representative from the Department of Labour in New Zealand, who employed me as a trainee gardener' got a bit miffy on the union agreement I was on. $12/week more than I was worth digging trenches, in my first timester, with people who were assaulting me openly.

The Human Rights Commission said that there were no breaches of my Human Rights. Yes, New Zealand said this. The land where being a Teenage Solo Mother was like being made to wear a scarlet ribbon. I wore it with pride. However I don't think that was what the rest of the country thought. I was at the bottom of the heap, and always will be. And at least there's no expectations down here! Certainly not any human rights in regard to pregnancy, marital status, right to life. Fuck them all, Other people probably believe that shit and don't take the matter further. Not anymore. I've got a whole song and dance performance coming up!
